E. James Smith Band LIVE at 11th Street Bar • Thursday, August 21, 2025 – 8:30P

Al, Tim, Pete, Hunter and I are looking forward to our upcoming show on Thursday, June 12th back at our favorite stage at 11th Street Bar in New York City’s East Village. The fun starts at 7:30! More details at https://linktr.ee/ejamessmith.

The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan Revisited
Today, I am here in New York’s Washington Square Park with my good friend, actress Audrey Kovar. We are here in search of the shooting location for Bob Dylan’s album cover The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan.
We know it was shot in this area, but can we locate this street and re-create the scene on the cover of The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan? Check out the video and see!
Blonde on Blond Revisited
I am in search of the shooting location of the iconic Bob Dylan album cover Blonde on Blonde. Can I find the location of original photo shoot and re-create this iconic photo? Follow me on this New York City musical odyssey to see if I can find out where this iconic Bob Dylan double album cover was shot.
The Gossips
Norman Rockwell’s The Gossips is one of his best known covers illustrated for the Saturday Evening Post in 1948. It is Rockwell’s reaction to a rumor that was spread around his small Vermont town twenty years earlier. The illustration starts with an old woman starting the rumor in the top left and moves through the residents of the town, including Rockwell’s wife Mary, ending with Rockwell himself confronting the original gossiper on the bottom right. The actual rumor is never disclosed. This video was inspired by a visit to the Normal Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge, Massachusetts. The music is called “Here I Am / You Are There” from my album “Don’t Get Me Wrong…” and is available for streaming everywhere. 😊

Out today “Easy Memory”
“Easy Memory” was inspired by the lovely Helen Firehock and her friend Dorothy Novak who ran Schnackenberg’s Luncheonette in Hoboken, New Jersey. While dining there one day, E. James Smith and Al Reynolds met Helen, who took their food order. Ordering a grilled cheese, a hamburger and two cokes, Helen didn’t need to write down the order. Instead she said, “that’s an easy memory” after each item was ordered. That was it. After lunch Al and James went back to their studio and wrote Easy Memory.
There is a great documentary called Counter Parts about Schnackenberg’s made by Nicole Lucas the same year the song was written.

“She’ll Take You So High” has been added to dozens of Spotify playlists.

She’ll Take You So High is as mysterious as it is danceable. E. James Smith and band occupy the surrounding space and take over the groove with this sinister dance-rocker that spirals its way through a maze of imagery. The lead guitar stabs through the dark shadows, the supercharged horn section explodes into the heavens. The drums and Hammond B3 organ are the heart and lungs of this gyrating rhythmic colossus as the hypnotic vocals lull you through a colorful field of orange and yellow marigolds.
Happy 2024! Thank you for taking the time to listen to my new song She’ll Take You So High and my other songs over these past months. I thank you in advance for adding this to your playlist. Warm regards and a prosperous new year.

New Song “Pushed on the Rails” streaming everywhere!
Pushed on the Rails is an adrenaline-packed high-speed runaway train.
“When I die there’ll be steam, instead of ashes” cry the pleading vocals riding along the perfectly parallel tracks of the thundering bass and the syncopated clacking, rip fire drumbeat.
Sinister lead and slide guitars cross swords as the atomic B3 organ and blistering harmonica leave you breathlessly backing away from the tracks.

The Detail Man video is now on YouTube!
Join E. James Smith for a nostalgic walk down a country road in historic Wolfeboro, New Hampshire. In the gravel by the side of the road he discovers a shiny object. He picks it up to find it is a button that features 39th President of the United States Jimmy Carter. Carter is seen holding raw peanuts and the text reads, “America Needs Carter • A Man of the Soil.” Thus begins the music video for The Detail Man, the first in a series featuring “The Man in White”, a recurring character created by E. James Smith, who walks (or canoes) through different environments as the band plays along back in the East Village.
The ”Side of the Road” sequences were shot by Stephen Arnold in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire.
The live band sequences were shot by Paul Allman at the famous 11th Street Bar in the heart of Manhattan’s East Village. The E. James Smith Band performed live on October 10, 2023 at 11th Street Bar. Playing that night were E. James Smith (lead vocal/guitar), Al Reynolds (lead guitar/vocals), Pete Iannitto (bass), and Kevin Kinane (drums/vocals). Stay tuned to this YouTube channel for many more videos from this live event and more music videos featuring “The Man in White”.
